 2010 Honoree: Jesse Hamilton

                                         Francis Tweed

Downingtown High School East is proud to announce the late Coach Jesse Hamilton as the 2009 Battle of the Brandywine Honoree.

Jesse Hamilton graduated DHS in 1977 with a perfect attendance record from elementary through HS. He was all-league in Football, a Champion wrestler and a Silver Spike winner at the Penn Relays for Shotput. He was co-captain of the 1976 DHS Football Team. As one team member put it - "you were much better off being next to him than facing him and watching his nostrils flare".

Jesse coached Marsh Creek Football for 10 years and Lionville Middle School for three years. He loved teaching the kids the game of football. He also loved teaching them about sportsmanship, integrity and responsibility. At the beginning of every season, one of the first things he told the boys - school comes first, no excuses.

He was a devoted husband and father of two fabulous sons. He loved this community and this school district. He & his 4 brothers ran Dane Decor and supported the community.

He loved to smile and make you smile back, even if you had a rotten day!

IIn 2008, the Jesse Hamilton Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Jesse. It has already been awarded to a deserving male and female athlete who had excellent academic records, in addition to strong volunteer and community service experience.
