From the Superintendent
Greetings,
As I am sure you are well aware,
over 100 community and staff members have been working attentively
to create a third high school option for future Downingtown
students. The Downingtown High School STEM Academy will officially
open its doors in the fall of 2011 with two classes entering the
Academy. To date we have architectural plans drawn to renovate the
1930's DEC building into a modern technology-laden structure, plans
to hire the leader or Headmaster for the Academy, plans to adopt a
curriculum design and instructional framework, plans to infuse
technology into the hands of all students and teachers, plans to
create a more flexible schedule for students and teachers, and plans
to partner with colleges and industry. Thank you to the 106 DASD
community and staff members, guided by the capable hands of Dr.
Marcy Hessinger, who are working on the creation of our district's
new STEM Academy. Our conference rooms on Wallace Ave. have been
busy as parents, business leaders, teachers, students and community
members gather to research, discuss and make recommendations to the
Board on the future components of this new high school. I invite
you to follow their progress on our STEM Academy website.
Dr. Larry Mussoline, Superintendent
