Dear Downingtown High School Graduates:
The need for a College Education and degree continues to grow in importance more and more as our society continues to change and becomes more competitive. Your Alumni Association awards two $2,500.00 scholarships each year to one graduating senior from each of the two High School campuses. Our direct appeals for the Scholarship in the past have been met with GREAT success. In 2010, our Scholarship Fund received enough funds to cover our current scholarships. We are working diligently to increase the Scholarship Fund, this and in upcoming years, so that we can provide additional assistance to our students. Our goal is that no qualified student will be denied admission, or be compelled to leave because of financial need. It is because of our commitment to our students that we ask for your help. Every gift counts – gifts of all sizes are welcome. How much you give is strictly up to you, and it does not take a large donation to have a big impact. Our 2010 recipients were James Heintzelman, of the West Campus, who is attending Lehigh University and Michelle Carstens, of the East Campus, who is attending West Chester University. Our Annual Giving Fund supplements our Operating Income and is used to fund our other programs as well. These programs consist primarily of the Annual Homecoming Celebrations for both High Schools and the Annual Banquet which is held in the spring of each year. We thank you for your contributions and hope that you will help us again this year. Your contributions are deductible for tax purposes. Remember your Alumni Association is the oldest, active Public High School Alumni Association in the United States of America founded in 1884, and was the first High School in Chester County to have a Homecoming Celebration founded in 1963. It is my hope, as well as the hopes of ALL our officers, that you will attend our Annual Banquet on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Sincerely, Mark F.
